Roland T. Petersen Rites Held Saturday
Funeral services were held for Roland T. Petersen, 90, Saturday, March 25, 1995 at 2:00 p. m. at the St. Mark's Lutheran Church in St. Paul.
The Rev. Larry Lepper officiated. Congregational hymns played were "Amazing Grace" and "What A Friend We Have In Jesus." Jerry Hruza sang "Prayer of St. Francis" and Bernie Johnson sang "The Beautiful Garden of Prayer". Mildred Johnson was the organist.
Burial was in the Elmwood Cemetery in St. Paul. Casket bearers were Dale Johnson, David Boll, Orville Sorensen, Jerry Hruza, Edward Nevnvy, and Dale Ward.
Jacobsen Funeral Home in St. Paul was in charge of arrangements.
Roland T. Petersen, son of Ludvig and Katherine (Petersen) Petersen, was born July 12, 1904 at Nysted, Nebraska. He departed from this life on March 22, 1995 at St. Paul, Nebraska at the age of 90 years.
He received his education at rural District #17 School near Nysted. As a young man, he worked at his family's general store in Nysted and was a farm laborer in the Nysted and Dannebrog area. He served a machinist apprenticeship for the Union Pacific Railroad in Omaha and worked for the UP for four years. He then returned to central Nebraska and farmed west of Grand Island.
On August 19, 1934 he was united in Marriage to Lillian Boll at Nysted. The couple lived in Portland, Oregon, where he attended a marine diesel school. He then worked as an auto mechanic for Cadillac and Oldsmobile dealerships in Oregon. The couple moved in 1941 to San Francisco where he was employed in marine repair until 1945. They then moved to Burns, Oregon where he was a shop foreman for an Oldsmobile dealership. In 1950 the couple moved to California, where they lived at Santa Maria and then San Diego where he worked for Oldsmobile and Cadillac dealers.
After retiring the couple moved to St. Paul in May of 1972.
He was a member of St. Mark's Lutheran Church.
He is survived by his wife, Lillian of St. Paul.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, Agnes Lauritsen and Inger Baadsgaard, and one brother, Herbert Petersen.
