Rev. John F. RIES, born 1722; died 1791. Pastor of St. Thomas church. (Transcription read REV. "RACE d, 1781" sp?)
Johan Friederick RIES spoke only Dutch, pastor of the Lutheran Trinity Church Stone Arabia 1751-1761 He became pastor Dec. 1, 1751. He closed his Pastorate in the year 1761. Pastor The St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church 1764-91 He died in 1791 aged 69 years. He is buried in the Churchtown Lutheran grave yard and the notation is made upon the tombstone that he had been Pastor of that church for nearly 30 years. This note precludes the oft asserted statement that he returned for a second pastorate in Stone Arabia. Dr. KUNZE was in error when in reporting to the Hale authority's in May 1785 that REIS was the pastor at that time in Stone Arabia.
He was a very active pastor, baptizing and preaching as far west as Niagara County, in the Black River country, south of the Mohawk and in Fulton County, while living in Stone Arabia. (Edited from the article by By Rev. Andrew Luther DILLENBECK Stone Arabia 1931)
