Born 27 May 1848 in Mechlinburg [sic--should be Mecklenburg], Germany, to a father with surname Ahrens (his birthplace unknown) and to a mother with surname Shoemaker (her birthplace unknown) in Germany. Elizabeth Ahrens Koester died 23 Jan 1939 while residing at 2715 Zoe Ave., Huntington Park, CA, where she had lived for the past 15 years (same residence as her daughter Carrie M. Koester [married first Jergins] Chaplin who was the informant on the death certificate). Altogether she had lived in California for 33 years total after having been widowed in Indiana. She had lived in the USA for 74 years, so by my calculation she immigrated at about age 16. She was 90 years old, 7 months and 26 days old at the time of her death by angina pectoris. She is buried in Inglewood Park Cemetery near Los Angeles.
