Andrew Luther Owen, 81, died Friday night in the home of a daughter, Mrs. B. C. Nicholson of Enka, following a long illness.
He was a retired farmer, a native of Jackson County, a member of the East La Porte Masonic Lodge and of the Wolf Creek Methodist Church.
Funeral services were held in the Wolf Creek Methodist Church at 11 am Sunday, with the Rev. John Youngblood officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.
Active pallbearers were grandsons. Honorary pallbearers were, Glenn Hughes, Jennings Bryson, Hugh Wood, Dr. Bernard Smith, Dr. Julian Moore, Judge Felix E. Alley, Thomas Wyke, Bill Palmer, Griffin Middleton, and Harry Blake.
Surviving are the widow, Mrs. Verina Broom Owen; nine daughters, Mrs. Walter Matthews of Wolf Mountain, Mrs. Burlin Owen and Mrs. Cole Lee, both of Lake Toxaway, Mrs. Hall Watson of Arden, Mrs. B. C. Nicholson of Enka, Mrs. Andy Adams of Brevard, Mrs. Mitchell Shelton and Mrs. Aaron Parker, both of Argura, and Mrs. Cecil Simmons of Longview Wash.; a son, A. V. Owens of Canton; three brothers, Carl and Rufe of Cherryfield, and Bud of Waynesville; and several grandchildren.
