Del Norte Prospector dated July 12, 1968
John A. Hall, 85, almost a life long resident of the community, died Monday night at the hospital. Via Mosca Pass and covered wagon, he came to the valley as a boy of five from his native DeSota, Johnson County, Kansas. The family settled at Monte Vista and shortly moved to the river ranch near the Plaza. This became the family home and John grew up here and attended country and Del Norte school.
In 1905, he was married to Miss Mora Catherine Rice and they established their home northeast of Del Norte on No. 112. They were the parents of five children.
John was a farmer and stockman most of his life but in 1933 he became county road supervisor and served ten or twelve years. This was the beginning of the improved county road network. He resided a short time in California, but returned to the valley and Del Norte. He was a member of Coronado Knights of Pythias lodge and of the First Baptist church.
Survivors are his wife, Mora; son Dick of Craig; two daughters, Alice Blain of Huntsville, Utah, and Clarabelle Brooks of Alamosa; ten grandchildren, six great grandchildren; one brother, James A. of Shawnee Mission, Kansas; three sisters, Susan Bingel of Paonia, Maude Schrader of Del Norte, and Cora Brey of Auburn, California. Two sons, Glenn and Jack are deceased.
Funeral services were today at the First Baptist Church with Rev. Fred Grimes officiating and interment here. Active pallbearers were Art Davies, Del Woodruff, Albert Enyeart, C.D. Voris, Forrest Crow, and Lawrence Adams. Honoraries were Elmer Underwood, Chester and Ralph Off, John Duncan and Ty Rudd.
