Capt. Matthew C. Freeman, 29, of Richmond Hill, Ga.; was assigned to Marine Aircraft Group 36, 1st Marine Aircraft Wing, III Marine Expeditionary Force, Okinawa, Japan; died Aug. 7 while supporting combat operations in the Shpee Valley, Afghanistan. Matthew is the second in his family to graduate from the United States Naval Academy. His stepfather also graduated from the academy and was a career naval pilot. Survivors: wife, Theresa Hess Freeman of Richmond Hill; mother and stepfather, Lisa Freeman and CDR.
