Gene Reaves Cochran, 74, of 124 Chilton Court died Wednesday, July 8, 2009 at Danville Regional Medical Center.

He was born May 25, 1935 in Hillsville, VA the son of Reaves Cochran and Mamie Carpenter Cochran. Mr. Cochran had lived in the Danville area since 1970 and worked in sales at Blackwell Automotive until his retirement.

He served his country in the U.S. Marine Corp and was a member of the American Legion Post 325.

Mr. Cochran was a member of Schoolfield Pentecostal Holiness Church where he served as an usher and was Men's Ministry Director.

Survivors include his wife, Shirley Mabe Cochran of the home; three daughters, Regina Cochran Dockery and husband, Tim, Tammie Cochran Jones and husband, Raymond and Lisa Cochran Leigh and husband, Dwane all of Danville; a sister, Sheila Jonas and husband, Joel of Mocksville, NC and he was Papa Gene to four grandchildren, Megan, Brandon, Tyler and Erica. He also leaves behind many special friends.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, July 11, 2009 at 11:00 A.M. from Schoolfield Pentecostal Holiness Church, 1380 West Main Street by the Reverend Michael Pressley. Interment will follow at Highland Burial Park.
