OCEANA, W.Va. — Carl "Curly" Edward Cook of Oceana, formerly of Davin, entered into eternal rest Monday, August 3, 2009, at Raleigh General Hospital at Beckley following a long illness.

Born June 27, 1966, at Logan, he was a son of Susan Cook Osborne and step-son of Roger Osborne of Oceana.

Preceding him in death were his maternal grandparents, Raymond and Freda Collins Cook of Davin, and a brother, Michael Scott Cook, also of Davin.

Curly was a 1984 graduate of Man High School, won a state championship in weight lifting and was an avid football player. He enjoyed watching NASCAR and was a Dale Earnhardt fan.

Additional survivors include a niece and nephew, Kayla Cook and a nephew, Michael Cook, both of Logan; five step-sisters Tammy (Danny) Miller of Denver, N.C., Sandra (Danny) Blankenship, Cheryl (Kenny) Lamb and Stephanie (William) Cook, all of Oceana, and Monica (Cubby) Whitlock of Kenna, and a host of aunts, uncles, step-nieces and nephews, cousins and friends.

Services were held Friday, August 7, at the Chapel of Stafford Family Funeral Home at Lynco with Rev. William Cook officiating. Curly was laid to rest beside his brother in the Claypool United Methodist Church Cemetery.

Pallbearers were family and friends.
