Lonnie Alfonzo Griffin, 60 of Lower Paxton Township, entered into eternal life on August 3, 2009. Lonnie, the son of the late Jackson Griffin and Olivia (Barksdale) Griffin, was born in Harrisburg on January 16, 1949.
In addition to his parents, Lonnie is preceded in death by his brother, Theodore. Lonnie was the proud father of Olivia Asuka Griffin-Foote and father-in-law to Rick Foote of Pittsburgh, PA and grandfather of Rixon Tsubasa Foote; brother of Robert Kedar Griffin of Harrisburg; sisters, Betty Griffin-Weathers of Charlotte, N.C; and Connie Griffin-Franklin of Harrisburg. He is also survived by his lifetime friend and mentor, Leonard (Dink) LeMelle.
A graduate of Bishop McDevitt High School, Lonnie joined the United States Navy in 1968, serving tours of duty in Vietnam, Japan, Guam, the Falklands, and the Persian Gulf. He was honorably discharged from the Navy after more than 20 years of service to his country. He attended Saint Patrick's Cathedral Church and Saint Catherine Laboure Church.
Family and friends will gather together to celebrate his life on Tuesday, August 11th at the Hooper's Memorial Funeral Home, 3532 Walnut Street, Harrisburg with viewing beginning at 10:00 am and services at 11:00 am. Burial with full military honors will follow at Indiantown Gap Veterans' Cemetery.
