Dr. Blauvelt was a graduate of Bryn Mawr College and of the Johns Hopkins Medical School. From 1893-1899 she taught school in Reading, PA. On June 16, 1905, she was commissioned as a missionary to China and sent to Amoy, China where she remained until 1908,when it became necessary for her to leave due to her own deteriorating health. She died of Tuberculosis. There is a hospital named for her in Tong-an, China.
