Ivan was born in Santa Rosa to Americo and Rosa Tomasi. He was the third of four children. He graduated from UC Berkeley where he received a degree in mechanical engineering. He later co-founded the firm Marion, Cerbatos & Tomasi with Alfred MacGregor Marion (electrical) and Agripino R Cerbatos (electrical). Ivan was married to his wife Lia and they had four children who were raised in their house in Mill Valley. Ivan died at the age of 65 from a brain hemorrhage.

A native of California, age 65 years. Mr. Tomasi was a partner in Marion, Cerbatos, and Tomasi Electrical and Mechanical Engineers, and was a member of the Santa Rosa T.B. Golf Club.
Friends are invited to attend a Funeral Mass on Thursday, April 16, 1992, at 1:30 p.m. at St. Eugene’s Cathedral, 2323 Montgomery Drive. Vigil Rites will be held Thursday, April 16, 1992, at 12:30 p.m. at the DANIELS CHAPEL OF THE ROSES, immediately prior to the Funeral Mass. Friends may call at the DANIELS CHAPEL OF THE ROSES, Wednesday, April 15, 1992, after 9:00 a.m. The Family prefers that donations be made to St. Vincent de Paul Dining Room, 610 Wilson Street, Santa Rosa, CA 95401.

In regard to the reference above to the T.B. Golf Club, T.B. is the abbreviation for Toilet Bowl. This was a group of his high-school & college friends who would meet once a year for a fun golf tournament.
