Civil War Veteran. Francis enlisted in August 14, 1862 at age 15 in Company B, 128 PA regiment where he was the drummer boy. He was mustered out on May 20, 1863. He served in 2 other regiments during the remainder of the war. He later enlisted in Company B, Pennsylvania 196th Infantry Regiment on 19 Jul 1864. Mustered out on 17 Nov 1864 at Philadelphia, PA. Finally, he enlisted in Company I, Pennsylvania 213th Infantry Regiment on 21 Feb 1865, and was promoted to Full Corporal on 20 Aug 1865. He mustered out on 18 Nov 1865 at Washington, DC.
