Obituary
Samuel Nezbert Ellenwood was born in Washington County, Ohio, April 27, 1854. With his parents he moved to Warren County, Iowa, when he was eighteen years old.
At the age of twenty-two he united with the Presbyterian Church and has ever since been a faithful follower.
On March 8, 1878, he was united in marriage to Mary Ellen Simpson. Eight children, six girls and two boys blessed this union, three of whom have gone before.
In November, 1890, with his family he moved to Canadian County, Oklahoma. From there he moved in December 1895, near Jones, where he departed this life on Wednesday afternoon, July 9, 1919, at the age of 65 years, 2 months and 12 days. Funeral services were held at the M. E. Church and he was laid to rest in the Odd Fellows cemetery. His death was due to heart trouble which had been aggravated by a severe case of influenza, he having been confined to his home since last November.
Although he seemed to be very hopeful of recovery he bore his ling suffering very patiently having the attitude of not his will but God's will be done.
He was a kind and loving husband and father, was just in his dealings with his fellow men and had a very generous nature as he would have given his last dollar to anyone in need.
He leaves a wife and five children, Mrs. Myrtle Gillespie of Jones, Mrs. Zone Mellinger of Oklahoma City, and Ollie, Roy and Blanche who are still at home. Besides these he leaves eight grandchildren, a brother, A. L. Ellenwood of Wellsville, Kansas, a sister Mrs. Robert Brown of Hamden, Ohio, and many other relatives and friends to mourn his loss.
Cards of Thanks
We desire to thank our friends and neighbors for their kind assistance and sympathy during the illness and death our beloved husband and father, also for the many beautiful floral offerings.
Mrs. M. E. Ellenwood, Mrs. Myrtle S. Gillespie, Mrs. Zona L. Mellinger, Ollie B. Ellenwood, C. R. Ellenwood, Blanche A. Ellenwood.
