----------
Charles Elmer "Charlie" or "Paddle" Johnson was a coal miner and worked in the mines in Lynch, KY. While a coal miner he was badly injured in a mine explosion, and was burned arond the face and neck. It was not disfiguring, but it was the end of working in a coal mine, he never went back.
Charlie also went to Louisville, KY during WWII in a factory Curtis-Wright Aircraft War Materials. He was also a machinist in OH, in Hamilton, OH just across the state line while he lived in College Corner, IN.
The nick name of Charlie from Charles is obvious, but how about "Paddle"? That name came from his very large feet! There is a photo of his sister Carley walking around in Paddle's shoes and they are HUGE on her.
