Garrett V. Barber, 82, Nelsonville, died Wednesday, March 10 at Doctors North Hospital, Columbus.

Born Jan. 7, 1917, Monday, son of the late Stephen W. and Ella May Clary Barber, he was married for 58 years to Harriett Rosmund Hutchison Barber, who survives.

A World War II Army veteran, he was a retired sheet metal worker. He was a member of Philadorian Lodge F&AM 157 of Nelsonville, Athens Chapter of Commandry and Council, Aladdin Shrine of Columbus and Athens County Shrine Club. He was a 1935 graduate of Carbon Hill High School.

Also surviving are two sons, Jimmy R. (Debbie K.) Barber of Laurelville and Jeffrey Allen Barber of Kissimmee, Fla.; a daughter, Mrs. Gary (Rita) Dotson of Kissimmee, Fla.; 12 grandchildren, James G. Barber of Kansas City, Mo., Stephen H. and Jessie C. Barber of Laurelville, Kelly J. Johnson of Trinity, Texas, Leanne Barber of Nelsonville, Sarah Weisbrot of Kissimmee, Fla., Deana F. Dotson of Kissimmee, Fla., Charles Davis of Coolville, Jeffrey L. Carpenter Jr. of Rockbridge, Jason L. Carpenter of Laurelville, Robert K. Dotson of Kissimmee, Fla., and Karen M. Dotson of Kentucky; nine great-grandchildren; a brother, Ralph (Phyllis) Barber of Murray City; a sister, Cleola Power of Columbus; a sister-in-law, Jeanette Barber of Nelsonville; and a brother-in-law, John Shumaker of Columbus.

He also was preceded in death by three brothers, Frank W., Delbert and Stephen R. Barber; and three sisters, Hazel Bess, Grace Darling and Fern Shumaker.

Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Warren-Brown Funeral Home, Nelsonville, with the Rev. Donald R. Davisson officiating.

Burial will be in Carbon Hill Cemetery.

Friends may call 7 to 9 p.m. today and anytime Saturday at the funeral home with the family in attendance from 3 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 9.

Masonic memorial services will be held 7 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
