J. Douglas Link, age 82, of Cottontown, passed away Friday evening, September 1, 2006, in Gallatin Rehabilitation and Nursing, after a formidable struggle with Alzheimer's disease. Douglas was preceded in death by his parents, Brooks and Nell Link; sister, Alene Ubbinga; and son, Duane Link. Loving survivors include his wife Thelma (Steele) Link; son, Shelby Link, daughter-in-law, Jayne; daughter, Shyla Moseley, and son-in-law, Everett; grandchildren, Aaron Link and wife Megan Link, Sarah Beth Link, Nathanael Hall, and T. J. Hall; sisters, Helen Roth, Ava Hicks, wife of Eugene Hicks, Era Wooden, wife of Douglas Wooden; and brother, Wilbon Link, husband of Dorothy. Also surviving are 16 nephews, 8 nieces, and numerous great nephews and great nieces.

The Sumner County native bravely served his country with honor and pride with the US Navy during World War II in the Pacific aboard the USS Paul Hamilton. Mr. Link worked for General Motors 32 years in Columbus, Ohio. Doug returned to his home farm in the Cottontown area following his retirement in 1984. Doug was a founding member of VFW Post #8198 in Grove City, Ohio, as well as a charter member of American Legion Post #164 also of Grove City. He was also a charter member of Portland American Legion Post #0075. Douglas was a faithful member of the New Deal Church of Christ.

Mr. Link was admired and highly respected for his fair and even disposition to all who knew him. Immediate and extended family will miss his humor and the quiet strength he exhibited in all he confronted.
