John Franklin was born to Jasper and Martha A (Mattie) Robinson Burke.
They lived in the community of Broom City. He had two sisters. Mary Emma born Sept 20, 1878 and Daisy. Emma is buried at Pilgrim also. His father died when he was eight years old. His father Jasper is buried at Providence Cemetery Alderbranch.

His sister Emma married Caro Quarles and later J. T. Daniels staying in the area. Daisy married Wright Whitley and lived in Palestine.

His mother Mattie remarried Frank M. Leopard. They are buried at Myrtle Springs Cemetery, Myrtle Springs Community.

He married Judie A. Parker, daughter of John and Cynthia Faith Bennett Parker. Their children were Franklin Parks, Herbert Lee and John Ronald Burke. Parks and Ronald are also buried at Pilgrim. Herbert Lee is buried at Palestine City- New Addition Cemetery.

He settled in the Redtown Community. He was a farmer.
