Charles A. Abernathey

Gloucester - Charles Aaron "Smack" Abernathey, 82, died on Sunday, July 4, 1999, at his home.

He was a lifelong resident of Gloucester County, an Air Force veteran of WWII and a member of Mt. Zion United Methodist Church in Gloucester.

He was self-employed in lawn maintenance.

He is survived by his wife, Hilda Kemp Abernathey; three sisters, Bessie A. Emory of Gloucester, Kathryn A. Lemmon of Natural Bridge and Anne A. Henshaw of Gloucester; and a brother, George Abernathey of Winston-Salem, N.C.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, July 6, 1999, in the chapel of Andrews Funeral Home by the Rev. Kerry Boggs. Burial will be in Mt. Zion United Methodist Church Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Monday from 7-8:30 p.m.

Memorial donations may be made to Mt. Zion United Methodist Church or to the Gloucester Volunteer Fire and Rescue.
