Doris Abeling, 79, Dover, N.H., poet, writer, artist and traveler, was called to her eternal rest on Oct. 5, 2002, in Limerick, Ireland, while on vacation. A celebration of life service will be held at 4 p.m. EDT Saturday at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, Newington, N.H., conducted by the Rev. Linn Opderbecke.

Doris was born Jan. 10, 1923, in Cleveland, Ohio. She was the daughter of Arthur and Elizabeth Wallace. She was the wife of the late Albert W. Abeling, also of Cleveland, Ohio. Together they had three children, Joyce Abeling Klauck (Rev. Roland M. Klauck), New Fairfield, Conn., Lynn Abeling Carey (Charles D. Carey), Dover, N.H., and William A. Abeling (Pamila Pratt Abeling), Bismarck. For the past four years, Doris made her home with her daughter, Lynn, at 69 Stark Ave., Dover, N.H.

Throughout her life, Doris worked as a journalist, writing for the Medina County Gazette, developed her own public relations business, owned a small business enterprise in Phoenix, Ariz., served as a county administrator for Medina County, Ohio, scripted journals of poetry and prose and wrote a novel, currently under consideration for publishing.

Widowed in 1997, Doris began a new phase of her life, traveling to England, Scotland and France, and wilderness trail-riding in North Dakota. She was stricken while traveling in Ireland, a place she had always wanted to visit. She had extensive plans for further travel and journals to fill with her ideas.

Doris is survived by her three children; seven grandchildren, Matthew (Christine Markert Klauck), Annie (Randy Vickery), Sarah Klauck, Elizabeth and Dallas Carey and Amanda and Aaron Abeling; and one great-grandson, Michael Klauck. She is loved and mourned by her family, friends and acquaintances from all parts of the United States and abroad.

Memorial gifts may be made in her name to Martin Luther School, 413 East Ave. D, Bismarck, N.D. 58502.
