Capt. Julius Folsom, a Chickasaw by blood. Was born in the State of Mississippi in the early thirties and came with the Indians to the Indian Territory when he was a young man, settling in the vicinity of Atoka.

When war was declared in 1861 he joined Green Thompson's command of Choctaws and Chickasaws and rendered valiant service during the entire war, throughout Indian Territory, Missouri and Texas.

After the surrender at Appomatox he retired to his place near Atoka and devoted his energies to the interest and uplift of his people. He has always been a power for their good and has filled many of the most important offices in the Choctaw Nation, executive, administrative and judicial.

When the Choctaw tribal government was abolished. Judge Folsom retired from public life enjoying the full confidence and respect of all who knew him.

During the past year Judge Folsom organized at Atoka, the ‘Judge Julius Folsom' Camp of U. C. V., which due to his efforts, became at once one of the largest and most enthusiastic in the state. He was elected Commander, which office he still holds and will probably continue to hold so long as he is willing to accept the honor.
