Royal R. Friend

Royal R. Friend, 64, of 908 North Third St., weighmaster in the elevator of the Central Soya Co. with 35 years of service, died at 5:30 a.m. today at the Lutheran hospital, Fort Wayne, where he had been a patient two weeks. He had been in ill health for one year.
Mr. Friend was an active member of the First Presbyterian Church, where he served as a trustee and elder. He was a member of the Decatur Elks Lodge, Moose Lodge 1311, Decatur Lodge 571 F&M and Scottish Rite, Fort Wayne.
Born in DeKalb County on April 9, 1910, he was the son of Charles S. and Daisy Squires-Friend, and was married on August 24, 1935, to Esther Schnepp who survives. Also surviving are one daughter, Mrs. Roger (Madeline) Blackburn of Decatur; two sisters, Mrs. Harry C. (Violet) Lee of Huntington, and Mrs. Paul A. (Gladys) Goble of Columbia City, and three grandchildren. One sister and one brother preceded him in death.
Funeral services will be held Sunday at 2 p.m. at the First Presbyterian Church, with Rev. Robert VanderHart officiating. Burial will be in Decatur cemetery. Friends may call at the Zwick funeral home from 7 p.m. today until 1 p.m. Sunday, and then at the church until time of services. Masonic services will be held at 8:30 p.m. Saturday.
Preferred memorials are to the First Presbyterian Church Building Fund.
