Stefan was an old buddy of mine who lived just down the road, and in our childhood and teenage days, we spent a lot of time together.

I remember his very outgoing nature. Stefan was never afraid to be different, he had his edges and did not even pretend to be conform, which was exactly what made him the great guy he was.

Out of a family of 4 siblings, Stefan who was my age and his sister Christine were the ones I had the closest contact with.

When the family moved away, we promised ourselves to keep in touch, but life itself often comes up with different things and so we lost touch, and only happened to find each other early this year. He spoke about the various places he had visited, living both in Barcelona, Spain and in Fort Lauderdale for a certain time, and that was just how I remembered this great buddy and daredevil who lived his life to the fullest.

It was fairly emotional to remember the old times and we started to make plans to meet in the not-too-distant future.

And while I was aware that Stefan was already a pensioneer at this relatively young age, he never made a fuss about this, and above all he never even spoke about how serious his disease was.

It was quite a shock for me to get the message from his sister Sabine in which she told me that Stefan had passed away, leaving behind his siblings and, above all, his beloved wife Maike and their little son, Thor.
