Elsie was born in Silcott, Washington Territory to Paul Altheirs Standley (1877-1948) and Elsie May Flowers Standley (1879-1958).

She married Albert Leslie Nicholls, Jr. on 3 Nov 1932 in Cascade, Cascade County, Montana.

Birth records mistakenly recorded her name as "Effie" and one census taker recorded her name as Chloe.

She was known as "Dolly".

She compiled histories for Standley, Nicholls, Flowers, Burge, Herr, Messinger and Maynard, obtaining a lot of information without using the internet or a computer.

Dolly and Les farmed in Ulm and Helena before settling in the Cascade area in 1937. They built a trailer court in Cascade and in 1954 bought the Cascade Drug Store building, which they operated until 1957. They then leased it for several years before Dolly sold the building to the Cascade Senior Citizens in 1976.

Siblings:
Baby Boy Standley (1898 – 1898)
John Albert "Al" Standley (1899 – 1971)
Baby Girl Standley (1901 – 1901)
Bernard Arthur "Bern" Standley (1902 – 1968)
Henry Mark "Pat" Standley (1905 – 1985)
