J. P. BROAS TO BE

Funeral services for John Peter
Broas will be held tomorrow at 3
o'clock at the home of his daughter,
Mrs. George W. Ankers, 29 Mansion
Street Burial will be in the Pough-
keepsie Rural Cemetery, in charge of
A. A. Schoonmaker. The Rev. J. J.
Henry, pastor of Trinity M. E.
Church, will officiate.
Mr. Broas passed away at Vassar
Hospital on Thursday morning, as the
result of an accident on New Year's
Day. when he was struck by an auto-
mobile driven by Guy DeCordova of
Rudco, at the corner of Franklin
Street and South Avenue. He was re-
moved to Vassar Hospital and was un-
conscious from the time of the acci-
dent to the time of his death. The
cause was encephalitis of the brain,
due to shock.
Mr. Broas was born in Poughkeep-
sie in 1842, the son of Isaac Broas
and Ellen Conner Broas. He married
Caroline Kornhaus in 1864 and six
children were born to them. Four are
still living. They are Smith I. Broas,
Edward F. Broas. Homer E. Broas.
and Mrs. George W. Ankers, with
whom the deceased had made his
home since the death of his wife sev-
eral years ago.
For nearly 75 years the name of
Broas has been connected with build-
ing operations in Poughkeepsie. many
of the largest buildings in the city
being the work of the father of the
deceased and his brothers.
