Bedy Jane Cox was born in Indiana and in 1854 she moved with her parents to Marshall Co., IA. She married Zachariah Spurlin Feb. 28, 1875, and while living in Union, Hardin Co., IA, 10 children were born to them.

In April of 1893 they moved to Emmet Co., IA and Grant Co., MN March 1902. Two years later they moved to Thorpe Twp., Hubbard Co., MN where they lived out their days.

In early life she became a Christian and member of the Friends church. and when she moved to an area without Friends meetings, she joined the Methodist Episcopal church and has been a very faithful and devoted worker. She had been an invalid the last 3 1/2 years during which time she had been a very patient and cheerful sufferer. Myrtle Nielson, her daughter gave her tender care until the last. She passed away at her home Sunday evening at 5:45.

She loved and was a wizard at growing flowers, and did not want any sacrificed on her casket. "Send the flowers to a hospital or to the living who would appreciate them and love them." She wanted the Boy Scouts to attend her casket. Her requests were honored.
