A pioneer of this section of the province passed away on Sat. morning in the person of Mrs. Elizabeth McAuley Howey, who died at her residence, Seventh Ave East, after an illness extending over some weeks. Deceased was in her eighty-third year and was born near Three Rivers, Quebec.

When nine years of age she came with her father's family to reside in Holland Twp. on the Garafraxa Rd., near Williamsford.

Sixty-four years ago she was married to Mr. William Howey and with her husband went to reside near Massie, Holland. There she filled a very large place in the social life of the community until about twenty years ago when with her husband she moved to Owen Sound, where she resided up to the time of her death.

Her husband predeceased her eleven years. She was a life-long member of the Methodist Church and during her many years she was not only a constant attendant, but an earnest worker of the church. Of a family of five daughters and six sons, there survive, Mrs. John McEwen of Gleichen, Alta,; Mrs. Henry White, of Bemidji, Minnesota; Mrs W.J. Christie, and Miss Elizabeth Howey of Owen Sound and Miss Mattie Howey of Vancouver, B.C.; Messrs. James H. Howey, Owen Sound; William R. of Edmonton; George of Dawson, Yukon; Wesley of Vancouver, B. C.; and Capt. Dr. Richard Howey of the British Army Medical Staff now in London, England. The funeral took place yesterday afternoon to Greenwood Cem. and was conducted by Rev. J. Wallace Stewart of the First Methodist Church. The pallbearers were one son, Mr. Jas. H. Howey and five nephews, Messrs. Sam and James Howey, Richard and Thomas Green and James Thompson.
