Graveside Rites Held Wednesday for Mrs. Pertain
Graveside services for Mrs. Nettie Harris Pertain were held at the Ritzville cemetery Wednesday.
Mrs. Pertain was the first child born in Ritzville, her nephew, S. E. Edwards said. Her parents were Jared M. and Augusta Harris.
She died at the Swedish hospital in Seattle Monday from the effects of a broken hip she suffered in a fall. She was born here in 1882 and had reached the age of 82.
Her first husband, Dave Pettijohn, was an early-day printer on a weekly newspaper here. Edwards said she moved to Seattle with her husband about 50 years ago. She was employed in the Seattle public library for 40 years before her retirement.
The Rev. James Updike conducted the service. Danekas Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
