ELIZABETH ELEANOR HILL BALLARD, 86, San Bernardino, Calif., died Tuesday, July 29, 2003, at Redlands Health Care Center, Redlands, Calif. She was born Dec. 12, 1916, in Lebanon. She was a graduate of St. Catharine Academy and attended St. Catharine College. She was a descendant of the early Catholic pioneers who settled in Kentucky and spent most of her life researching the early history of Catholicism in Kentucky as well as her family genealogy. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lohman Ballard; two daughters, Yvonne Benny and Elaine Ballard; and her parents, William Robert and Lucy Cambron Hill. Survivors include three daughters, Marilyn Cobb, San Bernardino, Calif., Laverne Montano, Highland, Calif., and Marita Carter, Fair Oaks, Calif; four sons, Lohman "Buck" Ballard Jr., Jerry Ballard and Sherman Ballard, all of San Bernardino, Calif., and Joseph Otho Ballard, San Clemente, Calif.; 23 grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Rose Guzman, Cincinnati, and Zita Brill, Arlington, Va.; and three brothers, Robert Hill, Fern Creek, Benedict Hill, Newport News, and Joe Hill, Bardstown. The Mass of Christian burial will be 11 a.m. Monday at the Basilica of St. Joseph Proto Cathedral with burial in St. Joseph Cemetery. The Rev. Bill Medley will officiate. Visitation is today at Bobbitt's Funeral Home in California and 4-8 p.m. Sunday at Mann and Greenwell Funeral Home with a prayer service at 7 p.m. Memorial donations may be made to St. Catharine College, 2735 Bardstown Road, St. Catharine, Ky., 40061. Mann and Greenwell Funeral Home Inc. is in charge of arrangements.
