Herbert's wife, Mary (Williams) Crandell, was also a patient at the State Hospital, and she is buried in the same cemetery.
Herbert worked for the railroad for many years. In his later years (by 1930) he became an elevator operator for a paper company. His brother, William, lived with Herbert and his wife for many years at their home on 33rd Avenue South in Minneapolis, only blocks from the Mississippi River. Herbert and Mary had no children.
Because burials were made systemically in the order that people passed away, Herbert and Mary are not buried next to each other.
