Obituary – HALLIE LUCILLE (MISER) WINFREY
(23 Dec 1911 – 16 Aug 2009)

Hallie Lucille (Miser) Winfrey traveled from her earthly home to her heavenly home on August 16, 2009 at the age of 97 yrs, 7 mo, 24 days in Lakewood, Pierce County, WA. Hallie was born on December 23, 1911, the fourth daughter and seventh child of ten born to Charles Ellsworth and Emma Elizabeth (Edgerton) Miser. She lived with her parents on their farm north of Burlington, Kit Carson County, CO. She attended Greeley State Teacher's College in Greeley, CO and taught school before and after her marriage.

On February 20, 1932, Hallie married Everett Lee Winfrey who was raised on a neighboring farm and was farming in Kit Carson County, CO. They continued to farm in this same area and during this time two sons were born, Howard Lee and Donald Leroy.

Hallie was saved and baptized September 2, 1932, as a member of Liberty Baptist Church which met at Happy Hollow School, Burlington, CO. Everett and Hallie accepted the call into the ministry in 1947 and entered into Bible School at Faith Bible Academy, Camdenton, MO. They later took further training at Tennessee Temple Schools, Chattanooga, TN. For 35 years they pastored 11 churches in 9 states. Whether singing, playing the piano and organ, or teaching, Hallie's love for ministering to others, shone through. She was often described as ‘The perfect pastor's wife.'

Hallie was preceded in death by her husband, parents, 3 brothers; George, Albert and John and 5 sisters, Lorena, Helen, Edith, June and Margaret. She leaves behind 2 sons and daughter-in-law; Howard Winfrey of Manton, CA and Don (Sheri) Winfrey, Lakewood, WA; 3 grandchildren, Melinda (Steve) Alongi, Oakdale, CA; Ramona Winfrey, Prather, CA; David (Paulann) Winfrey, Gig Harbor, WA; and 4 great-grandchildren, Matt Alongi, Amy (Travis) Mankle, Teresita and Marina Winfrey; 1 sister, Mary Conkling, Des Moines, IA; 4 sisters-in-law, Lola Rhoades, Burlington, CO, Mary Beth Winfrey, Yates Center, KS, Beth Winfrey, Gainesville, FL and Ellen Winfrey, Independence, MO.

Funeral arrangements are being handled by Mountain View Funeral Home, Lakewood, WA. Graveside services will be conducted by Pastor Marvin McKenzie at Woodbine Cemetery, Puyallup, WA at 12:30 on August 20, 2009. A reception following will be held at the home of their son, Don Winfrey and his wife Sheri at their home in Lakewood.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Bible Baptist Church of Puyallup Building Fund where Hallie was a faithful member for the past 25 years.
