The only child of Elmer Beecher Arnold and Vertie Jones; he was born in North Carolina. He married Esther Osborne 3 Feb 1942; they moved to Lancaster County in 1953. He retired in 1983 after about 30 years with Wiley Manufacturing Company in Port Deposit. A bowler, golfer and baseball player, he managed the Hobo Hollow softball team and other teams in southern Lancaster County. Walter and Esther had three sons and two daughters.
