Virgil's funeral service will be 11 a.m. Monday at the Harris-Martin-Burke Funeral Home, Pontiac, with the Rev. James Wolfe III of the First Baptist Church, Pontiac, officiating. Burial will follow in the Memorial Park Cemetery, Pontiac. Friends may call from 10 a.m. until the time of the service.
The family suggests memorials be made to the Good Samaritan Home, Flanagan.
He was born Aug. 25, 1913, in Thebes, the son of David and Elizabeth (Miller) Brown. He married Ruby Kimzey in 1934 in Murphysboro.
She preceded him in death in July of 1976. He later married Rose Reiners in June of 1978. She survives in Pontiac.
Other survivors include one son, David A. Brown, Normal; one daughter, Carol (Stan) Pieper, Groveland; three grandchildren, Douglas, Carrie and Brandon Pieper; and three stepsons, David (Pat) Reiners, Waukesha, Wisconsin; Allen (Doris) Reiners, Odell; and Doug Reiners, Bloomington.
He started work for Illinois Commercial Telephone in Murphysboro and retired from GTE as the Division Service Manager in 1976. He was educated in the Olive Branch, Illinois schools and also attended classes at Southern Illinois University, Carbondale.
He was a member of the First Baptist Church, where he served as board member and taught Sunday school.
