Davis-Miller Funeral Home
Earnest C. Artrip, age 68, of rural Windsor, Missouri, passed away Saturday evening, August 15, 2009, at the Golden Valley Memorial Hospital, in Clinton, Missouri. He was born in Cleveland, Virginia, on October 17, 1940, the son of Kyle and Edith Musick Artrip.
He grew up in Virginia and was inducted into the United States Army on July 27, 1961, received his basic training and was stationed at Ft. Leonard/Wood, Missouri. Following his discharge on July 26, 1963, he made his home in the Kansas City area where he was employed as a union laborer working on construction sites throughout the area.
On July 21, 1984, he was married to Karen Ann Ebeling in Lincoln, Missouri. Following their marriage they made their home on a farm west of Lincoln. He continued to work construction jobs until retiring in 1987.
During his retirement years fishing became his passion. He joined with other members of his family and about twenty other "fishing guys" known as the Rat Pack who gathered informally, pretty-much, when the weather was decent just below Truman Dam. If the fish were biting that was good. If they weren't … that was ok too. And every Memorial Day and Labor Day weekend they gathered for a big fish fry.
Earnest was preceded in death by his parents and two children, Carol Sue and Ernie Artrip.
He is survived by his wife, Karen, of the home, two sisters; Wilma Sutherland and Nancy Breeding, and her husband, Pete, of Cleveland, Virginia; step-children, Daniel & Shari White, of Lebanon, Missouri, Cheryl & Dennis Roberts, of Lee's Summit, Missouri, Randy & Amy White, of Clinton, Missouri, Scott White, of Windsor, Missouri, Amanda & Quintin Gates, of Mora, Missouri, Theresa Beatty, of the state of New York; seven granddaughters; one grandson; a niece, Amy, and a nephew, Adam Breeding, both of Virginia, other relatives and many friends.
Funeral services will be at 10:00 A.M. Tuesday morning, August 18, 2009, at the Davis-Miller Funeral Home in Lincoln, Missouri. Visitation will be from 7:00 to 8:00 PM Monday evening at the funeral home. Burial will be at the Artrip Cemetery in Cleveland, Virginia. Memorial contributions may be made to the Earnest Artrip Memorial Fund in care of the funeral home.
