Oakley, Robert Charles


Robert Charles Oakley, 75, of Bonham passed away Aug. 16, 2009, in Bonham.

Robert was born Nov. 10, 1933 in McKinney to Jesse and Mildred (Blankenship) Oakley.

He married Elsa Kay Stumpp on March 31, 1951 in Stuttgart, Germany.

Robert grew up in McKinney and enlisted in the U.S. Army where he served two tours of duty during the Vietnam Conflict, and retired in 1972.

He was employed at Texas Instruments for more than five years. Robert enjoyed playing golf and time with his family. He was also a member of Northside Church of Christ in Bonham.


He is survived by his wife, Elsa "Kay" Oakley of Bonham; daughter, Kathy Shearer and her husband Michael of Arlington; son, Eddy Oakley of Lamasco; granddaughter, Jessica Shearer of Austin; sister, Betty Curry and her husband Johnny of Greenville; brothers, Dickie Oakley and his wife Resa of Trenton, and Ronnie Oakley and his wife Mary Ann of Georgetown; several nieces and nephews and a host of other loving family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Joe Oakley.

A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, Aug. 21, 2009 at Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Chapel in Allen.
