Robert E. Tirey, 76, of Dyersburg, died Wednesday, Sept. 30, 2009 at his residence.
He was retired assistant fire chief of Dyersburg Fire Department after 40 years and a member of Lenox Baptist Church.
Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Friday in the chapel of Dyersburg Funeral Home with the Rev. Rudy Ring and the Rev. Joe Wright officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery.
The family will receive visitors at 5-8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Survivors include his wife of 46 years, Edna Sue Tirey of Dyersburg; four daughters, Shelia Barnard and husband, Verlon, of Steele, Mo., Pam Elliott and husband, Bill, Cindy Sawyers and husband, Larry, and Sherry Morgan and husband, Terry, all of Dyersburg; a son, Robert J. "Rusty" Tirey and wife, Anna, of Wingo, Ky.; a brother, Walker "Bud" Tirey of Georgia; 16 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a son, Mark Riggs Tirey; his parents, Edgar and Mary Elizabeth Tirey; and a brother, James E. Tirey.
Pallbearers will be Dyersburg Fire Department Honor Guard. Honorary pallbearers will be Barry Stanley, Ray Hurst, Neal Jacks, Mackie Joslin, Tommy Holland, Ben Sipes, Ray Gray, William Gable, Richard Wyrick, Jerry Walker, Gary Hastings and Larry Bizzle.
