John Mark, who died September 11, 1845, aged 64 yrs. 1 mo. and 1 da., was a son of Joseph Mark Senior, and brother of Peter, Jacob, Henry, George, Samuel, Jonathan, Mary Pretzman, Elizabeth, and Susan Sever. John was a "very good man". His first wife was Christina who was the mother of his children. She died of cancer and is buried in Staunton Churchyard, but her grave has no marker now. He married second Polly Loofburrow and she outlived him and on May 17, 1848, married John Reams. John Mark gave land for the first Methodist Church in the Staunton neighborhood, long before Staunton was a village, and he helped build the first church which was made of logs. It was not on the site of the present church, but some distance to the northeast, to the east of the present highway and between the highway and Sugar Creek. When the present church was built some graves were covered by the building. These were, I think, under the west side of the church. This information came from Aunt Mary Stafford. C.G.M.)
