Emanuel was living with his wife and 2 daughters in New York, when he was drafted into the US Army.
When Emanuel arrived in Vietnam 11 March 1967, he was assigned to A Company, 16th Infantry, 1st Infantry Division, USARV. The battalion was participating in Operation Billings with A Company operating in the vicinity of Xom Bo and 19 kilometers north of the Phouc Vinh Airfield. A Company was set for the night in their night defensive position, when hostile forces launched an attack against A Company. Emanuel died as a result of multiple fragmentation wounds to the body from hostile mortar fire.
Survived by his wife, Fay Brickhouse and his 2 daughters of 437 1st Street, Brooklyn, New York.

Both of his parents were deceased, Eddie Brickhouse (1962) and Livvie Mae Melvin Brickhouse (1950).
