Walter Douglas Lavender was the son of Poindexter J. Lavender and Martha Virginia Pratt Lavender. He was born on October 6, 1871 in Williamson County TN. Walter was the last born son in what was a large family. He had three sisters and six brothers. His father served in Company F of the 4th TN Cavalry (McLemore's) during the civil war. Walter married Adelaide Smithson on the 28th of December 1898 and resided in TN for his entire life. He died on the 11th of April 1912 in Nashville (Davidson County) TN.
