Barbara Carol (Sample) Stanley was the surviving twin daughter of James Hobson Dewey Sample and Emma Frances Elleanora Vaughan, born 30 April 1934 in her maternal grandparent's wash house, where her parents and she lived only briefly, on a farm just south of Happy, Texas. Her twin, Patricia LaNell Sample, died premature on 03 May 1934.

Barbara spent her very young years in the Texas panhandle area, crisscrossing between Hale County (where her paternal grandparents lived), Tulia (where her father died in 1937), Silverton (where her maternal grandparents lived), and Amarillo (where she completed part of her 9th grade studies).

Barbara was married to Robert Lee Poindexter on 30 January 1950 in Roosevelt County, New Mexico. To the union were born two children: Delbart and Danis. Additionally, a set of newborn twins were lost in about 1952/3 (Las Cruces, New Mexico). The family lived for a time in Amarillo where Barbara took work as a hairdresser.

After her separating with Robert, Barbara removed to both Colorado Springs, CO (where sister Fern resided), and then to Corpus Christi, TX (where sister Beth resided). It was in Corpus Christi where Barbara met and remarried in 1957 to naval-man Jimmy Loyd Stanley of Picher, Oklahoma, and mothered three additional children: Frank, De'Anna, and Jimmie Carol. The marriage was filed in Travis County, TX, where Jim was completing his business degree at the University of Texas. By 1960 the family found themselves in San Antonio.

Barbara was divorced from Jim in 1980. She was an avid baker and chef. She loved decorating for Christmas and Halloween and the family visitations that came with them. She loved crystals, their rainbows, and unicorns, and enjoyed salt water aquatic life which she displayed prominently for many years in her formal dining room at 13134 Queens Forest in San Antonio, Texas. She collected dolls and enjoyed caring for plants in her indoor/outdoor atrium. There was never an occasion she did not have her finger nails painted in a candy apple red and her right pinkie adorned with a single diamond.

She will be missed and forever loved.
