Born March 2, 1929, in Boone County, he was a son of the late Freeman and Garnet Williams Nelson. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Marilynn Daniels.
He retired from Peabody Coal Company in 1993, was a former businessman in the timber industry, where he supplied the mines, and was a former construction worker. He was a member of the UMWA, was of the Baptist faith, and thought a lot of his children and, especially, his wife, Lucinda.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Lucinda Hubbard Nelson; five children, Thomas R. Nelson of Seth, Kathy Ann Legg of Tornado, Bert Nelson of Orgas, Janet Jacovith of Bedford, Va., and Darlene Kinder of Seth; seven grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.
Mr. Nelson was cremated. There will be no service or visitation.
