Ira was the son of Isaac Steele, Jr., born about 1786 in SC, and Cynthia Cox, born about 1792 also in SC. At the time of the 1860 census both parents were living in Pittsboro, MS. Ira was born in Georgia. Ira's wife was Angeline "Angie" Armstrong Steele. He served as a Confederate Soldier, 1861-1865. They had six children.
