Bell, 73, had died at his home in Detroit., Obit: Deport Times 9 Oct 1925, Friday, from microfilm in the Clarksville Library: John S. Bell of Detroit died at his home in that city Thursday evening of last week from a stroke of paralysis, following a critical illness of nine days. The funeral was conducted Friday by the Rev. C. G. Wright, and interment was made at the Detroit cemetery, many people from the Deport community attending and the floral offerings were many and beautiful. John S. Bell was born Nov. 19, 1852 in Henderson County, Tenn., and came to Texas in February 1883. He was married to Miss Lizzie Day July 18, 1883 and seven children were born to this union, five of whom with his wife survive him – Mrs. Tom Jeffus and Mrs. Albert Jackson of Deport, Fred Bell of Fulbright, Mrs. Dick Bruton of Crandall, and Miss Blue Bell of Rusk. Clyde Bell, a son by a former marriage, lives at Hot Springs, Ark. Mr. Bell had resided in Red River County thirty-six years, and made his home at Deport for six years, moving away in 1905. He was the victim of an attack of paralysis in January, and had about recovered and was able to get about when the second stroke came nine days previous to his death. Mr. Bell was a good man and a splendid citizen. During the few days previous to his death a great many of his old friends from this community went to see him, and although unable to talk, he recognized them and was happier because of their presence. The sorrowing widow and children have the deepest sympathy of our people in their great bereavement. Marriage: John S. Bell married Lizzie E. Day on 18 July 1883 in RRCo TX Book E page 320. Epitaph: Remember Friends As You Pass By, As You Are Now So Once Was I, As I am Now Soon You Must Be, Prepare for Death and Follow Me.
