7th of 12 children of Andrew Durand and Eunice Hotchkiss; grandson of Andrew Durand, heart-and-crown chair school joiner; great-grandson of Dr. John Durand (Huguenot ancestor of Durands in America). Munson was a carpenter. He moved from Cheshire, Connecticut to Cheshire, NY with his family in 1816. His and his wife's graves are in the old part of the cemetery, near the pine bank down into Menteth Glen.
