SAVANNAH - Rev. A. Ray Adams, 86, died Saturday, August 22, 2009 at St. Joseph's Hospital. He was a native of Electric Mills, Mississippi and lived in many different cities in Georgia before retiring to Savannah. Rev. Adams served the South Georgia Conference of the United Methodist Church beginning his long career as the Associate Pastor of Isle of Hope United Methodist Church. He went on to serve as Pastor at many United Methodist Churches including Guyton, Tennille, Richland, Meigs, Ochlocknee, Macon-Ebenezer, Rochell, Hawkinsville, Nashville, Hazlehurst, Eastman-First, Eastman-Friendship, Buena Vista, Marshallville, and retiring from Bloomingdale in 1989. Rev. Adams was a writer for the Weslyan Christian Advocate where he wrote many articles used for Sunday School lessons. He was also a member of Rotary. He was preceded in death by his son, Howard Lee Adams. Rev. Adams is survived by his wife of 61 years, Emmalyn D. Adams, of Savannah; two sons and dauthers- in-law, Roy and Debbie Adams, of Portland, Indiana, and Robert and Esperanza Adams, of Savannah. He is also survived by his sister, Jewel Miller, of Brandon, Mississippi; and three grandchildren, Sean Adams, Megan Adams, and Nayib Suarez. Visitation will be 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, August 25, 2009 at Fox and Weeks Funeral Directors, Hodgson Chapel. Funeral Service will be 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, August 26, 2009 at the Isle of Hope United Methodist Church with the Rev. Dick Reese, officiating. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Memory Gardens. Remembrances may be made to the Isle of Hope United Methodist Church, 412 Parkersburg Road, Savannah, GA 31406.
