SSGT, US ARMY AIR FORCES WORLD WAR II
He enlisted in the Army and was an armament gunner on a B-24H aircraft. On May 5, 1944 he was on a mission to bomb the oil fields at Ploesti, Romania when the aircraft's wing was hit by a parachuting member of another aircraft in the formation. Two of the ten crew members survived but Francis Botello did not survive.
