Missionary to Turkey. Son of John and Sally (Cushing) Knapp. Graduated Middlebury College, 1852 and Andover Theological Seminary, 1855. Missionary in Turkey under the auspices of the A.B.C.F.M.

Married 6 Sept. 1855 to Alzina Maria Churchill and ordained September 7, 1855. Sailed from Boston, Oct. 27 1855 and arrived Smyrna in Dec. 1855 and Diarbekir in April 1856. Transferred to Bitlis in May 1858 which became the family's home for 37 years.
