Dr. T.J. Bell was born in Tennessee. The Bell family moved to Smith County and lived near Arp before moving to Tyler when Dr. Bell was a young man. He was an elder in First Presbyterian Church where he had been a member over thirty years.

Dr. Bell died on January 9, 1915, at the age of 67. He was survived by his widow; one daughter, Mrs. A.P. Prestwood, Tyler; and three sons: Dr. G.G. Bell, Tyler; Rev. J.L. Bell, Minford; and Rev. DeWitt Bell, Gatesville.
