Mrs. Metta Griggs

Mrs. Metta Griggs who died Saturday night about 11:30 o'clock, January 16th at her home here, was sixty-four years of age, was born in the town of Westford and was the daughter of Otheal and Emma (Cummings) Garlock. She was married September 23, 1896 to John R. Griggs also of Westford who died August 28, 1918.
She is survived by one uncle, Rush Garlock of Portlandville and several cousins; Fred Cummings of Milford, Howard Garlock of Middlefield, Mrs. Bert VanZandt of Sidney, Morton Garlock of Portlandsville, Mrs. Frank Robinson and Mrs. Seeber Bates of Westville, Claude Mitchell, Andrew Saxton of Oneonta and Fred Bice of Schenevus.
The greater part of her life was spent in Westford and for about 10 years was in Oneonta, where she was a member of the household of her cousin, Mrs. John J. Mitchell. Alike in Oneonta and Westford, her rare qualities of mind and heart made her many friends and in both communities her death is deeply regretted. The funeral was held at her late home Wednesday afternoon and was largely attended by relatives and friends. The rev. Mr. Webster, pastor of the Westford Methodist Episcopal church officiated, paying unaffected tributes to one well known and highly respected and beloved. There were many floral tributes from relatives and friends and the Ladies' Aid society of the local church of which she was a member. Burial was made in the family plot in the village cemetery. The bearers were Elmer Wright, George Skinner, Floyd Wright, Avery Skinner, F.G. Tyler and P.D. Roseboom, all neighbors and former neighbors of the deceased. Out of town relatives and friends were: Rush Garlock, Mr. and Mrs. Merton Garlock, Portlandville; Nellis Garlock, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Robinson and Mr. and Mrs. Seeber Bates of Westville; Mr. and Mrs. George Hall and son of Schenectady; Mrs. V. Van Zandt of Sidney; John Becker and son of Cobleskill; Mr. and Mrs. P. D. Roseboom, Mr. and Mrs. P.J. Gallagher, Andrew Saxton, Bernice Saxton, of Oneonta; Claude F. Mitchell and Claude Smith of Oneonta. Mrs. Charles Colgrove of Fairport, Mr. and Mrs. Murray Riddell and son of Cooperstown Junction; Mrs. H.P. Bradley of Milford and Mr. and Mrs. Avery Skinner of Worcester.
