Robert Jackson Sterling, Sr. 78 of Alexander, Arkansas won his long and difficult battle against heart disease by entering into the presence of his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on August 25, 2009. He was born to Myrtie Jackson Sterling and Othar Harry Sterling on November 26, 1930 in Wilson, Arkansas. He worked for many years at Meyer's Bakery before becoming a restaurant owner. He owned the Tastee-Freez on University Avenue, the Hickory Pit in Cabot, and RAK's on Mabelvale Pike. Bob was a testimony to all his friends and family as he "counted it all joy" every day of the journey, never losing his incredible wit and sense of humor.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, O. H. Sterling, Jr. and his sister, Gerri Rawls.

He is survived by his loving wife, Laverne; his brother, William F. Sterling of Conway; his sister, Fran Woody of Memphis, Tennessee; and his sister-in-law, Virginia Sterling of North Little Rock.

He is also survived by the many children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren with which he and Laverne were blessed. The children are: Dianna Atkinson and husband, Butch of Bryant; Linda Moudy and husband, Dan of Benton; Sue Rowland and husband, Wally of Little Rock; Reverend Robert Jackson Sterling, Jr. and wife, Kari of Benton; Kim Cook and husband, Larry of Austin; Kenny Wilson of Jacksonville; and Mike Wilson of Morrilton. The grandchildren include Bracy Atkinson, David Atkinson and wife, Cara; Dr. Matt Moudy and wife, Jenny of Cabot; Mandy Lane and husband, Josh; Sam Rowland, John Rowland and Townsend Rowland; Robert Jackson Sterling, III; CJ Sterling, Brennon Sterling and Blake Sterling; Brianna Cook, Lindsey Cook and Allison Cook; Randi Zakrzewski; Austin Wilson, Katie Wilson; Ryan Corsini, Rachel Corsini and Loren Wilson. Great grandchildren are Bracy Atkinson, III, Allie and Jessie Atkinson, Davis and Dylan Atkinson; Jacob and Megan Moudy; Brooks and Paxton Lane; Ethan Kelly and Leo Nardi. He also leaves behind many treasured nieces and nephews.

Funeral service will be held 10:00 a.m., Friday, August 28 at Geyer Springs First Baptist Church, 12400 Interstate 30, Little Rock, AR. Interment will be in Pinecrest Memorial Park.

Family will receive friends 6:00-8:00 p.m., Thursday at Roller-Drummond Funeral Home, 10900 Interstate 30, Little Rock, AR 72209 (501) 455-5800.

Pallbearers will be Bob's grandsons. Honorary pallbearers will be Bob's Sunday School class members at Geyer Springs First Baptist Church.
