-- Gunman Sought In Man's Death
-- Michael Lynn Wright, 28, of 116 Academy St. was fatally shot about 2:15 a.m. Saturday near Greensboro Street and Sugar Creek Road by a gunnman who also fired at a man riding with the victim.
Police have a description of the suspect, but no arrests had been made by late Saturday night.
Robert W. Yarbrough, 27, of 102 Brookwood Rd. told officers that he, Wright and a girl friend had left a lounge and were traveling south on North Tryon Street in Yarbrough's car. Yarbrough, who was not driving, said he dozed off and woke up to find a man pointing a gun at him. The man fired two shots, but yarbrough was not hit.
Yarbrough said he looked along the pavement and saw Wright lying wounded in the road. Yarbrough ran from the car and flagged down a passing patrol car.
Wright, shot in the neck, was pronounced dead at the scene. Police had not established a motive in the slaying.
